Appointments
Consultations
To book an appointment, please email a referral addressed to one of our Neurologists or Specialists to reception@axonneurology.com.au. Once received, your referral will be triaged for urgency, and our team will contact you by phone or email to arrange an appointment.
Due to high call volumes, our staff may not be able to answer your call immediately. If the matter is urgent, please ask your referring doctor to contact us directly.
Before your appointment, please complete the pre-appointment form. This form provides important information about your medical history and other relevant details, helping us make the most of your consultation time.
What to expect
The initial appointment usually takes 45 to 60 minutes. During this time, our neurologist will conduct a thorough assessment and examination, followed by a discussion of the diagnosis, potential further investigations, and treatment options with you. A detailed letter summarising this information will also be sent to your referring doctor.
Please aim to arrive 15 minutes early to complete the registration process. It’s also helpful to write down any questions you may have for the neurologist in advance.
Consultation fees
Axon Neurology is a private medical practice. While most services are eligible for a Medicare rebate, there are additional out-of-pocket costs as it is a private facility. Consultation fees vary depending on whether the appointment is for complex or non-complex cases. Fees for procedures, such as neurodiagnostic tests or botulinum toxin (BOTOX) injections, will also differ based on the complexity of the procedure. The receptionist will provide you with an estimated cost when you book your appointment. Payment via credit card or EFTPOS is preferred, though cash and cheques are also accepted.
What to bring?
Please ensure you bring the following items to your appointment:
– A referral letter from your GP, family physician, or another doctor.
– All your current medications or a detailed list of your medications, including dosages.
– Your Medicare card, Veterans’ Affairs card, or Age/Disability Support Pension Card.
– Any relevant MRIs, CT scans, test results, or other medical documents.
– A friend or family member (optional but highly recommended, especially if you are consulting for seisures or memory-related issues).
Unconfirmed appointments:
Once your appointment is booked, you will receive SMS confirmation messages at the following intervals:
– Immediately after booking
– 30 days before your appointment
– 3 days before your appointment
Please confirm your appointment by replying to these messages. Due to high demand and long waitlists, unconfirmed appointments will be reallocated to other patients if not confirmed at least 48 hours in advance.
To change or cancel an appointment:
If you need to change or cancel your appointment, please let us know as early as possible. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice will incur a $100 fee, which must be paid before your appointment can be rescheduled.
Repeat Scripts:
Your GP can provide you repeat prescriptions. You do not need to come to the clinic for repeat prescriptions unless mentioned during consultation.
